Kit (ConvertKit) Review 2026: Is It Worth $33/Month?
Honest review from a solopreneur who has used email marketing platforms for 15 years · March 2026 · 14 min read
Bottom Line
Kit (formerly ConvertKit) is the best email marketing platform for creators and solopreneurs in 2026. The free plan supports up to 1,000 subscribers with unlimited emails. Paid plans start at $33/month. The September 2025 price increase stings — but the platform remains the strongest choice for anyone building an audience around content, courses, or digital products.

What Is Kit (Formerly ConvertKit)?
ConvertKit rebranded to Kit in October 2024. The platform, the product, and the team are the same – only the name changed. Throughout this review I use both names interchangeably.
Kit is an email marketing platform built specifically for creators – bloggers, course creators, podcasters, YouTubers, and solopreneurs who make money by building an audience. It is not a general-purpose email tool like Mailchimp. It is opinionated in the best way: it strips out the complexity that businesses with complex CRM needs require and focuses on what creators actually use.
I have used email marketing platforms since 2008. Kit is the one I recommend most often to people building a side income alongside a full-time job. Here is why – and where it falls short. I also wrote a comparison of Kit vs Mailchimp.

Start FreeKit Pricing 2026
Note: Kit raised prices significantly in September 2025. The prices below are verified March 2026.
| Plan | 1,000 subs | 5,000 subs | Key features |
| Newsletter (Free) | Free | Free | Unlimited emails, 1 sequence, no automations |
| Creator | $33/mo | $79/mo | Unlimited sequences, visual automations, 70+ integrations |
| Creator Pro | $66/mo | $159/mo | Referral system, subscriber scoring, Facebook audiences |
Annual billing saves approximately 16% – two months free. 14-day free trial on paid plans. 30-day money-back guarantee.
The September 2025 price increase was significant. Creator went from $15/month to $33/month at 1,000 subscribers – more than double. This is the biggest knock against Kit right now and the main reason some users are switching to alternatives.

Start Free TrialKey Features – What Kit Does Well
1. Email Sequences and Visual Automations
This is where Kit genuinely shines. The visual automation builder lets you create complex subscriber journeys – triggered by tags, form submissions, purchases, or specific actions – without any coding knowledge.
A typical automation for a solopreneur: someone subscribes via a lead magnet form, receives a 5-email welcome sequence over 10 days, gets tagged as interested in a specific topic, and is automatically added to a targeted broadcast list. Setting this up in Kit takes 20 minutes. In Mailchimp it takes an afternoon.
2. The Tagging System
Kit organizes subscribers with tags rather than separate lists. This matters because a subscriber can have multiple tags without counting toward your subscriber limit multiple times. In Mailchimp, putting a subscriber on three lists counts them three times – tripling your costs.
For a solopreneur with multiple products or content topics, the tagging system means you can segment your audience precisely without paying more for the same people.
3. Creator Network and Recommendations
Kit’s recommendation network lets you cross-promote with other creators. When someone subscribes to your newsletter, you can recommend other newsletters they might enjoy – and other creators recommend yours to their subscribers.
This is a legitimate list growth tool. At scale, active participation in the recommendations network can add hundreds of subscribers per month without any ad spend.
4. Landing Pages and Forms
Kit includes 30+ premium landing page templates on all plans including free. You can host a landing page at a Kit subdomain or connect your own domain. For solopreneurs who do not yet have a website, this is a genuine no-cost starting point.
The landing pages are functional but not exceptional. If conversion rate optimization is a priority, a dedicated tool like Leadpages is stronger. For most solopreneurs just starting out, Kit’s built-in pages are sufficient.
5. Selling Digital Products
Kit allows you to sell digital products and paid subscriptions directly through the platform on all plans including free. The 0% transaction fee on free plans makes this genuinely useful for early-stage creators.
This is not a replacement for Gumroad or Shopify for a serious digital product business. But for selling a single ebook, template, or paid newsletter tier, Kit’s built-in commerce is adequate.
Where Kit Falls Short
1. The Price Increase
Going from $15 to $33 per month at 1,000 subscribers is a 120% price increase. For solopreneurs in the early stages of building an audience, this is painful. Beehiiv at $49/month and MailerLite at $15/month are now more competitive at specific use cases.
2. Basic Reporting
Kit’s analytics are adequate but not strong. Open rates, click rates, and basic subscriber growth metrics are available. Advanced cohort analysis, deliverability reporting, and revenue attribution are only on Creator Pro. For most solopreneurs this is fine. For data-driven marketers it is a limitation.
3. Landing Page Design
The landing page templates are clean and functional but limited in customization. Compared to Leadpages or even Beehiiv’s web builder, Kit’s landing pages feel dated. If landing pages are a primary acquisition channel, consider a dedicated tool alongside Kit.
Kit vs. The Alternatives
| Tool | Price (1k subs) | vs Kit |
| Beehiiv Scale | $49/mo | Better for newsletters – built-in monetization and referral program |
| MailerLite | $15/mo | Cheaper with similar features – weaker creator focus |
| Mailchimp | $13/mo | Cheaper but list-based pricing penalizes growth |
| ActiveCampaign | $29/mo | Stronger CRM and automation – overkill for solopreneurs |
Is Kit Worth It in 2026?
Yes – with caveats.
If you are building an audience around content, courses, or digital products and you have under 5,000 subscribers, Kit is still the strongest platform available for your use case. The automation quality, the tagging system, and the creator network are genuine competitive advantages.
If you are primarily building a newsletter and want built-in monetization tools, Beehiiv is now a stronger choice at a similar price point.
If budget is tight and you have under 1,000 subscribers, start on Kit’s free plan. You can always migrate later.
Score: 8.7/10 – Recommended for creators and solopreneurs. The price increase is frustrating but the platform remains the best in its category.
Not sure if Kit is right for you?
Beehiiv at $49/month includes built-in ad monetization, a referral program, and a cleaner newsletter writing experience. Worth comparing before you decide.
